Just a thought...

OK, I know this is risky, but I am DYING to get some interaction going up in here, so I figured maybe this would get things started.  I have my own opinion, which I will share later, but I want to know what you think about the stimulus, economy, and the overall direction of the new adminitration.  Ready, set...comment!

(Note:  differeing opionions are wonderful and encouraged, but please remember to always be respectful to each other.)  OK, now you can comment!

Hey Will,

I am really trying to like Obama, I think there are some great possibilities with his open, honest communication style and common sense.

Frankly though, I'm probably with most of the world in saying, it looks like more of the same....

Too bad, I had hope.

Ok here I go. I am praying that Obama can bring about the change that he talks about and that we so desperately need! I like his ideas on the stimulus package and I love that he is creating a website so that we the people can see where our hard earned dollars are going! He is a great speaker and communicator. I would really like to see the republicans help more and not hinder or make comments that they hope he doesnt succeed. If Obama doesnt succeed then we as a country fail and I dont think anyone should want that differences or not! Those are my thoughts.

Good to hear your thoughts Celi. I hope he can effect some change as well. My issue is that he is not saying anything different than any other democrat president before him, his is just much smoother and much more eloquent, so it sounds better. Unfortunately his stimulus package I fear is going to make things better in the very short term, but much worse in the long run. Spending your way out of debt will never work and to think otherwise, ignores what history has spoken. That being said, I do agree that there needs to be a willingness to work together from both parties. I fear however that politics as usual will always get in the way of that. Beyond the economy, he has already made some morally reprehensible decisions regarding abortion, abortion funding, and other such legislation that is simple partisan politics and will not do anything good for our country.

People like to talk about how horrible former President Bush was, and while I do not agree with all he did, and was generally unhappy with many decisions he made, I do believe that he lead from conviction about what was best for the country rather than partisan politics. That is my opinion, and I know many disagree. The other funny thing is that people really harped on how low his approval rating was, but ignored the fact that congress had an approval rating that was HALF of what his was, and still is extremely low.

All of that said, I have learned in these days, how important it is to put our trust in the Lord. As followers of Jesus, we have a mandate to pray for and honor our President because there is no authority under heaven accept that which God allows. To that end, my prayer is that since he professes to be a follower of Christ, that he will receive true revelation of how to really help our country and that in that way, he will be able to effect some much needed change.

Considering professional economists' opinions are pretty split on the best economic plan, I'd venture to guess that it's something that has no one right answer, that it's beyond any one person's ability to understand every angle.

We tend to react negatively to the plan that hurts us the most rather than trying to look at the big picture and realize that there is no way to fix this without hurting someone.

Not only that, but we often tend to look at this as a time to "fix something" to get it back the way it was rather than as an opportunity to flush the crap out of the system (there's a plumbing joke for you) and set a course for a future that is more sustainable and, hopefully, with lessons learned that extravagant lifestyles and bloated markets are not everything they were once made out to be.

Anyway, this is a long way of saying, "I don't know and, frankly, don't trust myself to pretend like I should know."
